How Can We Love Community
Loving community is the third component to LC3 and it's something Relevant truly believes in. Because of the love Christ has shown us, we believe it is our duty and privilege to show love to our surrounding community, and to the world. We take part in many different local projects, and also send teams around the country and even the world. We have no agenda other than to make others feel loved.
One of our favorite service opportunities happens on the second Saturday of every month. We "creatively" call it, Second Saturday. A Second Saturday project could include light home repair such as painting or yard maintenance. It could also be events like community field days with games and fun opportunities to connect with local families. Or even serving local businesses. By having a regular, on going service project, we are able to move quickly to meet needs in our community.
Ms Ruby’s House - Affectionately knows as “Mama Joy”, Ms Ruby is 67 and cares for 11 great nieces and great nephews whose ages range from infant to 13. With the help of countless donations, over 140 volunteers, and many committed sponsors God allowed us to completely gut and rehab Ms. Ruby's house, which was built in 1918. It was a joy to help someone who helps so many.

Samaritan’s Feet - God provided two opportunities in 2015 to partner with Samaritan's Feet (www.samaritansfeet.org) and the Davin Joseph Foundation (www.davinsdreamteam.org) to help distribute shoes. The first was held at Central Tampa Baptist in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Final Four and over 800 pair of shoes were distributed to local families in need. The second opportunity came in August as we served students at the Department of Children and Services and Springhill Park Community Center in Sulphur Springs. As a result, an additional 750 shoes were distributed. A unique component of this distribution was the opportunity recipients had to have their feet washed by volunteers as an act of servant leadership modeled by Jesus.
Robles Park - In 2015 we began partnering with Van Dyke United Methodist Church on the 2nd Saturday of every month to offer crafts, games, and Bible stories to children in the Robles Park community. Many students in this area also attend Broward Elementary so God has used this to help build a stronger bridge of support and encouragement in this community.
Relevant extends its LC3 mission both nationally and internationally through our mission trips to Eutaw, Alabama, and the Dominican Republic. Building on the foundation set in 2015, Relevant will once again partner with SCORE, International to send mission teams to both locations in June 2016.
Christmas Is Near
Every December 23rd, Relevant Church brings their huge Christmas is Near holiday festival to downtown Tampa at Curtis Hixon Park. Starting in 2012, we had a vision of giving the gift of a Christmas festival to the city of Tampa. When over 3500 people attended, we knew we were on to something. Every year since, the event has grown bigger and better. At Christmas Is Near you can expect ice skating, train rides, photo booths, a “build your own stocking” station, face painting and giveaways. Also, when you get hungry, the area’s best food trucks are stationed around the park. We follow that with an unconventional Christmas Eve service that concludes with a candle light sing along.
